About Us

Air Quality Management Association (AQMA)

Air Quality Management Association (AQMA)” a non-government-organization registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 (Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 1975) on 25th March 2022. All of the renowned and eminent scientific, engineering, medical, and educational institutes, center and state pollution control boards, and leading organizations deals with air quality instrumentation including IITs, NITs, VITs, CSIR-NEERI, Medical Colleges, CPCB, TNPCB, KSPCB, and Envirotech Instruments. The core members of AQMA formed this organization to address issues of ambient air quality, indoor air quality, health risks, technological interventions, and policy formulation.

Air Pollution is one of the world’s largest health and environmental problems. It contributes to 11.65% of death globally. As per the latest report of global burden of disease combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) contributed to an estimated one million deaths globally (27.3% of all mortality); 800,000 lacs of those deaths were in South Asia or East Asia. Further, indoor air quality is another major challenge. It is ranked as second largest killer in India. Poor air quality indoors impacts health and wellbeing of occupants, human comfort, and their behaviour and performance. Sadly, this topic has unfortunately received little attention.

Thus, it is crucial to enhance the understanding of science behind air quality by promoting knowledge on clean air and understanding best working practices. The association is established with the following aim and objectives:

  • The main objective of the Association is to enhance the understanding of the science behind air quality by promoting knowledge on clean air and understanding best working practices.
  • The Association also promotes and publishes position statements on matters related to air pollution and health to achieve healthy air quality for human welfare from rural to urban scales through activities of association members.
  • To provide a platform to interested professionals including scientists, engineers, educators, and practitioners to exchange the latest advancement in theories, technologies, and applications in the area of air quality monitoring, modelling, control, policy and health impacts.
  • To provide milestones and opportunity for students to further develop their knowledge in air quality.
  • To provide a forum through which the Members of the Association can interact with one another for mutual benefits and to further the objectives outlined above.
  • To facilitate and encourage young professionals to contribute towards the advancements in the field of air pollution management.
  • To further such objectives as the General Body may decide from time to time
Vision

To continue to be the leading source of technical information on ambient air quality, indoor air quality, human health risks, citizen science, technology interventions, national policies formation, popularise air quality in school and college education system, regulations and standards regarding air quality along with bring various stakeholders together on a shared platform to build collaboratively holistic solutions.

Mission

To advance citizen, society, industry, and government’s leadership to build healthy surrounding environment through multi-stakeholder engagement and awareness programmes and initiatives.

Goal

To promote knowledge on clean air, reduce individual exposure to toxic contaminants, and lessen human health risks.’
